As one of the choruses within the Sunshine District of SPEBSQSA, we are eligible to compete in state-wide competitions twice a year. .The Fall competition determines the chorus who will represent the district at the International Chorus competition in the following summer. In October 2003 The Academy competed in its first International Preliminary Contest. After only 10 weeks of preparation, the chorus of twenty-two men finished a close second to perennial winners Tampa, a sixty man chorus. In the Spring competition the District (State) Champions are named. In the 2005 competition, after only 8 weeks with our new Director, The Academy finished second, with our highest score to date. October 2005 saw The Academy reach their highest score ever, finishing less than 2% away from a berth at the International competition. The chorus finished tied for 27th out of 242 choruses from across North America, with by far the smallest chorus out of the top 50 (see our blog for more details). In August 2006 we competed at the Buckeye Invitational Competition, a unique competition where men's and women's choruses of all sizes compete head to head - and part of the judging is by the audience. The men of The Academy were thrilled to win the Male Chorus competition and finish second in the Most Entertaining ande Best Overall categories! |
